IVECO and Hive Power collaborating to cut commercial fleet TCO with smart charging solutions

The global manufacturer and the Swiss startup partnered in a pilot to optimise energy use in fleet charging.

IVECO, world leader in road transportation since 1975, offering an extensive range of light, medium, and heavy commercial vehicles for road and off-road use, and Hive Power, an innovative Swiss startup specialised in intelligent energy management, have launched a joint pilot project aimed at developing an advanced digital solution for electric fleet charging optimisation.

The collaboration focuses on a smart charging layer that integrates seamlessly with the OEM’s existing vehicle software. Acting as a technical aggregator, the system schedules charging sessions based on dynamic energy prices, grid signals, and on-site renewable energy availability. This enables a more efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable charging process. It helps fleet operators reduce operating costs while minimising their carbon footprint.

Founded in Lugano, Switzerland, in 2017 as a spin-off of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI), Hive Power provides advanced software platforms that enable smart grid flexibility, demand response, and energy community management. Its technologies empower energy operators, utilities, and mobility providers to optimise distributed energy resources and charging infrastructure through predictive analytics and AI-driven control. Practically speaking, it acts as a technical aggregator that schedules charging based on energy prices, grid signals, and on-site renewable availability. The platform connects over the cloud with vehicles, stationary batteries, and chargers, shifting energy use to greener and cheaper hours.

For IVECO, this pilot represents an important step towards enhancing the energy intelligence of its electrification ecosystem. The pilot showed significant potential, with an energy savings of up to 30%. The company’s goal is to ensure that its customers’ fleets can leverage renewable energy sources and smart grid interactions to achieve both economic and environmental sustainability. The initiative reflects Iveco Group’s broader open innovation approach, which aims to collaborate with agile technology partners to accelerate the transition to zero-emission transport.

"The collaboration with Hive Power confirms that our eDaily are at the forefront of the electric transition: vehicles ready for smart charging, designed to reduce operational costs and enable the energy services. We focus on developing tools and solutions that support customers in approaching commercial electric mobility in a practical and efficient way," said Giulio Manni, Charging Strategy Engineer, IVECO.

“Every depot is different. FLEXO automatically adapts charging schedules to price signals, grid conditions and renewable generation, and lays the groundwork for participation in flexibility markets and Virtual Power Plants. That is real impact on TCO and CO₂,” outlined Gianluca Corbellini, CEO at Hive Power.

Building on the results of the pilot phase, the two companies are exploring avenues to further refine and potentially scale the solution within Iveco Group’s vehicle portfolio.
