Iveco Group, a global leader in the transport and commercial vehicle industry that designs, manufactures, and markets vehicles and powertrain solutions, and NANDO, an AI-powered waste management startup, partnered to tackle the growing need for sustainable waste management in corporate environments.
Iveco Group, known for its commitment to environmental sustainability, sought to enhance its waste management strategy, particularly in optimising the quality and quantity of recycled materials produced across its offices. The collaboration began at FPT’s offices as a pilot project in 2023 and rapidly expanded to other facilities in the Turin site, following the positive results and strong engagement from the teams involved. By September 2024, the solution had been fully adopted throughout the company’s headquarters building.
NANDO’s solution uses cutting-edge computer vision and artificial intelligence to monitor waste in real-time. The system captures images of waste materials, which are then analysed by NANDO’s AI to provide accurate data on waste production and recycling performance. The waste data is presented through a detailed Waste Report, allowing Iveco Group to make data-driven decisions to improve waste sorting. This real-time feedback has proven effective in increasing the quality of waste separation, from a baseline of 65% to 78% within the facilities where the system has been implemented.
Founded in 2021, NANDO has developed a highly innovative waste monitoring solution that leverages AI and computer vision technologies to help organisations reduce their environmental impact. By providing detailed insights into waste management processes, NANDO empowers companies to optimise recycling efforts, reduce costs, and comply with environmental regulations. The startup’s vision is to drive sustainability through technology, offering scalable solutions for waste management in various sectors.
By partnering with NANDO, Iveco Group aims to accelerate the adoption of smart technologies that make waste collection and recycling more efficient, transparent, and environmentally responsible. NANDO was chosen for its ability to engage users and provide clear information on proper recycling practices improving waste sorting in offices while encouraging employees to adopt good recycling habits, fostering greater environmental awareness and positive behaviors that extend into their everyday lives.
“Our aim was to improve waste sorting while fostering awareness and good recycling habits. NANDO stood out as the perfect partner, combining advanced technology with an approach that engages people and drives lasting behavioral change”, said Egle Panzella, Sustainability Manager at FPT.
“At NANDO, our vision is to shape a future where technology becomes a true enabler of sustainability and innovation, not only transforming industries. Bringing our technology in Iveco Group, a company that shares our values of innovation and circular economy, has been a remarkable journey,” said Chiara Incorvaia, Global Account Manager at NANDO. “This collaboration perfectly reflects NANDO’s core values: challenging the status quo, using technology to create a positive impact, and transforming how we manage resources.”
Building on the success of this initial deployment, both Iveco Group and NANDO will continue exploring innovative applications of artificial intelligence to optimise waste management and to reduce environmental impact.
